You may be able to use your existing RFID tags—such as tags already used for building or facility access—to identify drivers in FleetGO.
Because RFID tags and their exported identifiers can differ between systems, FleetGO must confirm compatibility before the tags can be used.
What you need to provide
To request a compatibility assessment, please contact your FleetGO Sales representative or FleetGO Support. You will need to provide:
- At least two physical RFID tags from the same tag series
- An import file containing the identifiers of those tags
- If available, the manufacturer, model and RFID technology of the tags
The import file can usually be obtained from the supplier of your RFID tags or access-control system. FleetGO will provide instructions for sending the physical tags.
Please do not send your only copies of tags that are actively required for access or other business-critical purposes.
How compatibility is assessed
FleetGO checks both the physical tags and the accompanying import file.
The physical-tag assessment determines whether the tags can be read by supported FleetGO hardware. The import-file assessment confirms that the identifiers in the file correspond to the supplied tags and can be imported into the FleetGO platform.
Both assessments must be successful before the tags can be approved for use.
Supported identification technologies
FleetGO’s standard contactless identification tags use EM-Marine technology. Compatible external tags using MIFARE technology may also be supported.
The following technologies can be assessed:
- EM-Marine
- First- and second-generation MIFARE
- iButton
iButton is a legacy technology that requires physical contact between the identification key and the reader. Contactless technologies are generally preferred for new implementations.
Support for a technology does not guarantee that every tag or import format using that technology will be compatible. The supplied tags and data must always be assessed.
Assessment results
After completing the assessment, FleetGO will let you know whether the tags are:
- Fully compatible: The tags and import data can be used without identified restrictions.
- Compatible with restrictions: The tags can be used, but limitations or additional requirements apply.
- Not compatible: The tags, the import data or both cannot be used with FleetGO.
If restrictions apply, FleetGO will explain them as part of the assessment result.
Why are physical tags and an import file required?
Reading a physical RFID tag confirms only that the tag works with FleetGO hardware. FleetGO must also verify that the identifier in your import file matches the identifier read from that tag.
A tag may therefore be technically readable but still unsuitable for implementation if its identifier cannot be matched or imported correctly. Testing both components in advance helps prevent delays during implementation.
